By Layal Zalkout
After coaching the Allen Eagles for 10 seasons and winning three 5A Division I state titles, the National High School Coaches Association named Tom Westerberg the 2014 High School Football Coach of the Year.
Westerberg led his team to finish the 2013 season with an undefeated record of 16-0, earning a state title. Since his appointment as head coach in 2003, the Eagles hold a 118-16 overall record. The team won their first state title in 2008 and were back-to-back state champions in 2012 and 2013 with quarterback Kyler Murray.
Westerberg is only the second coach from Texas to receive this award. He will be honored in the soon to be built National High School Sports Hall of Fame Museum along with the past honorees.
