Hoco Q and A with Paul Russell
Q: “Why did you apply to homecoming court?”
A: “I have always looked up to the people on homecoming court, so I have wanted to run since I was a sophomore. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity, so why not try?”
Q: “What extracurricular activities are you involved in?”
A: “I am the president of the band, the founder and president of the croquet club and a leader in the Paradigm Bible Club. I was also the cover design manager for the Phoenix literary magazine and a member of the Phoenix council.”
Q: “How did you feel when they announced your name last Friday during the announcements?
A: “I was very excited. I remember sitting in my math class and telling everyone to be quiet so I could hear the announcements. I think I did a fist pump when they called my name. It was especially fun to go into the hallways after class and hear so many students, many of which I had not talked to in years, congratulate me.”
Q: Give one word that describes your feelings for Friday and Saturday night”
A: Rhapsodic- because it is the most interesting synonym for ecstatic that I could find. I can’t wait to walk onto the field and to see the results.”
Q: “Out of all the homecoming traditions what would you say you are most excited for?”
A: “Walking across the field with my mom. For three years, I’ve played ‘Colors of the Wind’ with the band as the homecoming court walks to the front. I remember being intimidated by the people on the court because when the announcer would list their activities and leadership positions and awards, I assumed that I could never achieve a fraction of what they had done. It’s really surreal to think that I’ll be where they were. For me, I guess walking across the field is kind of like a tribute to high school and to the fact that I’ve been able to do a lot more in these four years than I originally thought.”
