Allen Eagle Soccer Nation
The sun beams down on the freshly painted white lines and the crowd in the bleachers bursts with anticipation. Jerseys ripple in the wind as the girls of the Allen Eagles soccer team pick up speed, drawing closer and closer to the net. The opposing goalie looms before the players, guarding her castle with her arms spread wide. She has no chance against the Eagles as the laces of their cleats connect with the ball and it goes crashing into the net. The crowd leaps to their feet, hollering and cheering as the players pump their fists and celebrate the win.
At Allen High School, football is in the lead when it comes to popular sports, but no one pays attention to the sport the rest of the world is passionate about: soccer.
As district champions, the Allen Eagle soccer nation is where the real excitement is.
The United States is the only country that doesn’t call soccer football, we don’t anticipate the upcoming games and we turn all of our attention to football.
Soccer is played all around the world, England, Greece, Spain, so why is it so unpopular in the United States? Well, there are many different opinions on the subject. One includes the fact that a fan could spend 90 minutes watching the game and never see the ball go in the net. Other opinions, like mine, say that the reason for such high unpopularity is that America has always strived to be its own, independent country. Since everyone around the world focuses on soccer (football) as their dominant sport, this allows us to assume that America wanted to diverge from Great Britain, leading to the wild unpopularity of the sport. Of course, it’s always popular to bring the sport back into American culture.
In their last season, the JV Red girls soccer team’s overall record came out to be 14 wins, 5 ties and 3 losses. To top it off, they ended the season as district champions. Allen can easily expect an exhilarating and eventful season for the girls soccer team.
The girls’ varsity and JV Navy teams ended their district tournament with 3 wins, 2 losses and 5 ties. While JV Red excelled as district champions, JV Navy and varsity games will certainly be breathtaking to watch.
Allen girls soccer teams have worked hard during scrimmages and practices to reverse their mistakes and ensure an exciting upcoming season. In my opinion, JV Red, JV Navy and varsity girls’ teams will for sure be the teams to keep your eyes on. Take some time off football and turn your attention to the world’s sport: soccer.
