Heard it in the hallway: Red Ribbon Week

Students and faculty members participated in Red Ribbon Week from Oct. 27 to Oct. 31. The theme this year was “iTune Out Drugs.” Each day of the week was dedicated to a genre of music starting with Hard Rock Day on Monday and ending with Western/Country Day on Friday. The PALS took charge of decorating the hallways with banners and several classroom doors in the building were decorated by students and teachers in honor of putting down drugs.

“The [decorated] doors made me realize the amount of artistic talent in our school.”

Keerthy Benny, junior

“The decorated doors were really neat because they gave the students a chance to be creative and apply anti-drug concepts. The posters that the PALS put up were also pretty creative. I especially like the “Pugs Not Drugs” slogan. I guess since I remembered it, it was pretty effective.”

Alyssa Fowler, junior

“The posters and decorations were extremely eye catching this year and I continued to see them on social media throughout the week. The one decorated door that stood out the most to me was the door which mentioned how drugs are like Plano because they don’t win.”

Hermon Feron, senior

“[Red Ribbon Week] was okay. Dressing up and decorating can be really fun. However, [even after] Red Ribbon Week, I still hear about people who continue to take drugs.”

Esther Maeng, junior

“The posters were pretty nice. On the other hand, I didn’t think that they were necessary because posters aren’t going to stop a person who is already on drugs, and if a person is considering doing drugs, posters aren’t going to have too big of an effect.”
