Don’t Let it Rain on Your Parade
Seven Style Tips to Upgrade Your Rainy Day Wear
The weather has been a foe rather than a friend lately – major rain and bone chilling temperatures are not my thing. However, fashion stops for no rain. Usually I disagree with winter trends because of the unflattering sweaters, the layers upon layers, and the scarves that cover half of your face; but this season is surprising me and I am excited for cold, rainy days.
The worst part about gloomy days is trying to tame the mane. Whether it’s fly aways, frizzies or knots, hair never agrees with rain. To avoid this, I suggest doing a classic side-swept bun. It is sophisticated, chic, and most of all, easy. I will never complain about shaving a few minutes of my morning routine.
Blush, blush, blush. Bright blush has been all the rage lately. I believe that this trend will last through spring since it gives skin a dewy, innocent look that glows in the sad weather. Although this look is great, it is also delicate because it’s easy to go overboard. Remember ladies, a little blush goes a long way.
During this gloomy season, I get major allergies. My eyes water and you can’t use medicated eye drops. Plus, contacts are annoying so why not just wear glasses. They are a great fashion statement that are perfect for allergy season. I myself have recently made the switch to thick-rimmed glasses. They never go out of style and look good on anyone. Ray Bans have always been popular but now more than ever. Plus, who’s to say glasses can’t be fashionable? There are prints, bold colors and different shapes for your face.
Let’s talk sweaters. I know that everybody wants to stay inside and where a big sweatshirt but when has that ever looked good. Chunky sweaters are not so great either, how are going to get anybody’s attention wearing sweaters five times your size? Right now my closet is stuffed with printed sweaters that are cute, fitted and comfy all in one- yes, it is possible.1/12/15 Ella Geosits
Something else to consider is outerwear. Who needs boxy raincoats when you can wear a puffer vest that flatters your shape, rather than hiding it? Puffer vests are everywhere. Guys wear them all the time and now ladies are joining the puffer vest revolution. They give you a sporty look without even trying. And bonus: they go on top of any shirt.
Rainboots have been a staple this season and just like any good fashion trend they come in all shapes and sizes. Short, tall, bright, or neutral; there is one for everybody. Not only are rainboots stylish, they are comfy and foot friendly. Comfort is key, am I right ladies? If you are looking for boot inspiration, try Hunter boots. The brand has been all over, making a big splash.
Boots in general have been big this rainy season. Boots now even have their own accessories. For example, Grace and Lace is a company that makes leg warmers and socks to go inside your boots and peek out at the top. Another quirky add-on is boot toppers, fashionable slip-on cuffs. They can be fur, sweater material or even animal inspired.
Overall, the forecast of fashion has me looking on the brighter side of this dreary season. I’ll just endure the weather, grab a blanket and wait out the cold front. I still hate the rain and cold, but at least I will look stylish while I freeze.
