High hopes after UIL practice meet
Allen students competed in the first UIL practice meet of the year on Jan. 9. The students placed fifth out of the 25 schools competing.
Individuals placed in various events and competitions in math were also placed based on their grade. According to Allen’s UIL sponsor, Gail Mehno, the students placed very well for their first meet.
“The students were very excited to be there,” Mehno said. “They’re being challenged by the contest and the matching of scores to the other schools.”
In regards to the future meets’ results, Mehno believes that the students will keep placing high in the district competitions like the last two years.
“It was their first meet so the enthusiasm was high,” Mehno said. “And it’s revving them up to be more prepared for our next meet as they aim for districts.”
