Volleyball Courts find New Home

The volleyball courts at the Village of Fairview were recently removed in order to construct new hotels. It appears that the courts have found a new home at the Cottonwood Creek Church of Allen.

“We at Cottonwood Creek, like others in the area, were disappointed in hearing that the sand volleyball courts at the Village at Fairview had to be removed,” Executive Pastor Scott Sanford said in a press release. “Knowing these courts were important to Collin County, we contacted The Village at Fairview and they graciously donated all the equipment to us. We are now in the process of relocating the equipment and raising the remaining funds needed to rebuild the sand volleyball courts on our church campus. Once open, the courts will be free and open to the community to use.”

When the courts were originally scheduled to be removed from the Village of Fairview, there was a large backlash from the public, including the formation of a petition that drew more than 2,800 signatures.

“A lot of people enjoyed going [to the volleyball courts] and it was a good place to be outside,” sophomore petition-signer Gillian Emerson said. “It was also nearby everyone in the community, making it a good place to hangout with friends.”

The church is hosting a GoFundMe account in order to raise money for permit fees and construction costs, which can be accessed here.
