“While the actors are usually the ones you see, technical theatre is behind the scenes.”

“Basically technical theatre is responsible for what you see and sometimes even what you hear. While the actors are usually the ones you see, technical theatre is behind the scenes. We’re in charge of lighting, audio such as microphones and music, set changes and even building the sets. We do in fact build our own sets here. We also do a lot of the painting, decoration and bringing in more suspension to the belief in each play. When I started, I only acted and I began tech when I moved here. I’ve had roles from a sea creature in ‘The Little Mermaid’ to the lead of this one play called ‘Violet Sharp,’  was more of a dramatic role. It’s really fun to see how different the roles are, but I think my favorite role was last year as Tiger Lily because it was so different from what I was used to. I am used to having a talking part and not really having to go out of my comfort zone.  I didn’t start theatre until high school, but I have wanted to do it since I was young. When I was little I saw my first musical; I was in first grade, and I thought that it was so magical and wonderful and I was like, ‘I want to do that when I grow up.’”
