Eagles Fall to Coppell in district game
The Coppell Cowboys dominated the Allen Eagles on Oct. 17, by winning 7-0. As a result, Allen falls to 3-3 on the season and Coppell improves to 3-4.
Allen’s offense was nonexistent, as they never put the puck into the net. Allen struggled against a terrific Coppell defense led by defender Charlie O’Hearn. Coppell’s goalkeeper made tremendous saves; he saved a solid four shots on goal. Not only did Allen struggle to score, but they also struggled with time of possession. Anytime Allen had an offense possession it was quickly ended by a swarming Coppell defense. Allen was only able to shoot 11 times with four of them on target.
Despite Allen not playing well as a whole, they still had strong contributions from forward Ryan Casey. Casey was all over the rink, creating turnovers and setting his teammates up for success with great passes.
Allen’s defense did not play well, as they were scored on seven times. Coppell was able to get 25 shots off with 15 on target. Allen’s goalkeeper Cole Canning played a great first period, only allowing one goal on multiple scoring opportunities. But as the game went on, the defense got worse. Allen was scored on four times in the third period, two times in the second.
The game was very chippy between the two teams with seven players from both teams going into the penalty box. The refs let the game play on and this resulted in coaches taking out players to calm them down.
Allen looks to get back on their previous winning streak as they play McKinney on Oct. 20.
