Chance The Rapper Comes to Dallas

Chance The Rapper Concert Review

Chance The Rapper came to the Bomb Factory in Dallas on Sunday on his Magnificent Coloring World Tour. Dallas is the 21st city he has performed in on his 2016 tour. The tour is now halfway over, but Chance is showing no signs of slowing down. Built on a reputation of electricity and crowd interaction, Chance’s shows are highly anticipated by his crazed fan base. It was no different here in Dallas.

Parking was hard to come by, and the entrance line was nearly five blocks long. After an hour-long wait to enter the venue I was met by a huge crowd of people; the Bomb Factory had well surpassed its capacity as fan after fan kept on rolling in. After bumping into a couple Dallas Maverick players I secured a place to stand. There was hardly any room around me on the balcony level. Fans were sitting on stairwell railings and crowding fire escapes just to catch a glimpse of the stage. The crowd had an overwhelming energy that infected the entire building. With everyone settled, the wait was on for Chance to make his appearance.

After an extensive thirty minute  wait Chance finally exploded onto the stage with a massive light show and smoke cannons flaring everywhere. The crowd erupted into a huge roar and immediately broke into song. Chance did not hesitate to get the show rolling, busting out with his hit song “Angels.” The artist continued to jam hit after hit from albums old and new along with an impressive light show that got the crowd jumping in unison. Chance had creative play alongs with a giant stuffed lion named Carlos between each song, discussing songs he should sing and in what direction he should go with the concert. This added to Chance’s uniqueness that separates his shows from other rappers. He countered his lively, upbeat songs that got the crowd jumping up and down with a few calm beats that had that same crowd humming together in a almost choir-like fashion.

So even after the terrible parking, long line and delayed start, Chance The Rapper live was so worth it. He is so much different than other rappers that I have seen and this is exactly what makes his show exceptional. I give Chance an A and would recommend a trip to his concert to anyone.
