Allen stays perfect on Senior Night against Wylie
The Allen Eagles remain perfect as they head into the playoffs. Allen had a lockdown defense and a steady offense which allowed them to win 49-0. Allen continues to 10-0 and Wylie to an even 5-5.
Allen’s offense was controlling time of possession as they ran the ball 37 times. Allen running backs Brock Surges and Kirby Bennett had most of the load while junior running back Juwan Robinson was hurt. Allen’s passing game was also on track as they had 297 passing yards. The Eagle’s offense did not score until the early second quarter. After they got their first touchdown they did not let up scoring 49 points.
“We put more effort into the offense and started to lock in,” senior tackle Will Sherman said.” It’s all about the win.”
With the Eagle’s offense not producing at their normal level in the first quarter, the special teams saw the field more than normal in the first half. Allen’s defense was put in tough situations as the special teams struggled putting Wylie’s offense in bad field position. Despite struggling when punting, the field goal unit was perfect going seven for seven.
“We didn’t play well last week,” defensive coordinator Cory Cain said. “We just had a little motivation and corrected our mistakes.”
With Allen’s special teams and offense struggling at the start of the game, the defense remained strong as they did not allow any points. Allen’s defense sparked the offense after creating turnovers and giving the offense good field position. This allowed to Allen’s offense to get back on track and start scoring. Eagles only allowed 101 total yards on the game and created multiple three and outs. The Eagles did not allow Wylie to score as they only got into the redzone once and were picked off by Allen’s defense.
“I’m very proud to play for my city,” linebacker James Tupou said. “It feels good to come out on Senior Night and get the win.”
Allen will start their playoff run at Eagle Stadium against Trinity on Nov. 11. Stay tuned here at the Eagle Angle for all the action.
