Fads Fade Fast
Fashion has an enchanting legacy of repeating itself. Denim on denim is now acceptable, chokers are a must have and fishnets aren’t just for angsty teens. Fads fade fast, but they always come back.
Customized Denim jackets. I adore this whole idea – I think it’s genius. There is nothing more comfortable and cute than throwing one on before hanging out with your crew. It’s a unique trend from the ‘80s, and I’m a huge fan. I think they look extra rad when paired with jeans. Denim on denim is something I never thought I would wear. Poshness is a description that is consistently dynamic.
Another popular style from the ‘90s that has made a reappearance is the infamous choker necklace. The original chokers are far more tacky but in this decade we have revamped it to make it runway ready. I’m obsessed with chokers; I wear one pretty much every day because I dig their edginess.
Mary Jane footwear is also being recycled. I’ve seen so many great outfits being put together with this timeless classic. I own two pairs myself: one with a heel and one without. I worship them. Fashion staple. They’re perfect in sophisticated settings but still give that extra quirk.
Mirrored sunglasses. Personally, I think these are so cool. Sunglass trends don’t change that often, so when these came about I was pleasantly surprised. This style played a large role in pop culture in the ‘80s and to see it resurface is a joy.
Another popular previous fad that has made a comeback is scrunchies. I’m guilty of owning more than I need. I just think they are so fun; I’m able to add color while keeping it casual.
Fishnets are definitely something I never would’ve seen coming. These are incredibly fashion-forward and edgy. They can be worn with an accessory, an add-on or underneath ripped jeans. Punk vibes are strong with these.
Flannel is another trend that’s extremely versatile. It works in all weather, it’s cozy, rustic and easy to throw on. It’s impossible not to adore functional fashion.
Another emerging trend is high waisted pants. Almost all my jeans and shorts are high waisted; they give the illusion of extra height and pair well with crop tops. I cherish this style so much, it’s the classic high rise fit.
Lastly, one of my particular favorites: windbreakers. Windbreakers are currently such a sleek and functional look. I have one and I love how voguish and practical it is. It’s rainproof, winterproof and swanky– a winning combination.
Overall, fashion fads have repeated themselves over time. I look forward to exploring whatever new styles time may bring.
