Humans of Allen: Sammi Montemayor
“Track and cross country are not the same thing.”
“So what’s the difference between track and cross country?”
“Track and cross country are not the same thing. Track has multiple [events] in it and they prepare for it differently. Cross country needs to train for distance, and run continuously. We’ll run like, maybe eight miles to prepare for a 5k. Track needs to prepare for the same distance, they just need to run and try to increase their speed. I’m more of an endurance person rather than speed, that’s something you have to figure out for yourself.
I got into cross country because of my sister. She tried it out first, otherwise I wouldn’t have ever known what cross country was. She started in 7th grade and I was like ‘You know what? I’m going to do what she’s doing when I get into 7th grade.’”
