Humans of Allen: Zaina Karanja
“I don’t really like Texas that much, so I want to move out and see a more liberal area, and then I definitely want to live in New York. I think I’m going to study psychology and maybe biology and chemistry. And I think I would go to med school after that. I want to start a nonprofit or something like that. I saw this one person who’s trying to help all of the LGBT homeless in New York and I kind of wanted to do something like that, and then I want to help with the [Black Lives Matter] movement. There was this one time in tenth grade when one of my leadership teachers showed us a video about one of these poor urban areas mostly populated by black people, and it kind of showed me—because I’ve lived in Allen so I’ve never really gotten to see the differences— how many differences there are between white people and people of color.”
