Allen ISD Art Show
The annual Allen Independent School District Art Show was hosted Feb. 17 in the Performing Arts Center gallery. With more than 350 student participants, the 2017 Art show had the most contestants out of any previous AISD art show.
The art show awarded cash prizes to the winners in each of the three divisions. The division one first place winners were senior Kylie Moore’s piece ‘‘Scarab Beetle’’ and junior Leticia Li’s “Dream.” The division two first place winners were junior Noah Self’s “Elvira and the Party Monsters” and junior Eliza Jane Bigbee’s ”A Good Head on Your Shoulders.” The division three first place winners were senior Kate Walker’s “Milo” and junior Leila Sun’s “Swimming.” Each division had first, second, and third places as well as an Administrator’s Choice Award. Honorable mentions were given to four candidates in each division.
“It was a really fun experience,” senior and participant Isabella Alfie said. “Being able to see your artwork up there with a plaque and everything is mind blowing, especially when it’s surrounded by a billion other amazing pieces.”
The art show featured more than 450 pieces as well as live music in the commons area of the PAC. Cookies, cake and drinks were complimentary.
“I think really the best thing about hosting the art show is that every student gets the chance to showcase their artwork,” art teacher Laura Helms said. “It makes them feel 100 percent better about their work and this event really boosts their artistic confidence and abilities.”
