Allen defeats district rival Plano

The Allen Eagle baseball team defeated Plano Wildcats 1-0 with a solid night from the pitching group starring Dylan Ditzenberger and Cole Maxwell. The win pushes Allen to 14-7 on the season while Plano falls to 7-13-1.

The game started slow with neither team getting many people on base. Both batting units were being struck out and were not getting their team a chance to score. Both pitching units were backed up by a solid outfield that didn’t make mistakes. Allen eventually scored in the fourth inning and kept the lead until the end of the game.

“Not many teams in our district are going to beat us,” senior Josh Simpson said. “We would have to beat ourselves by making mistakes.”

Allen has one of the strongest pitching units in the district only allowing 72 points this season. The pitching staff allowed Allen to maintain the pace of the game and keep Plano scoreless. Allen also had a great outfield who performs when they need to. The Eagles overall as a unit on defense that performed outstanding, despite the lack of points. They allowed no runs against Plano and continued their great defense streak, only allowing six runs in the last five games.

“I truly believe we can beat any team with any pitcher on the mound,” junior pitcher Seth McLaughlin said. “I hope we can make a deep playoff run this season.”

Allen is now 5-0 in district play and is on a seven game winning streak. The Eagles’ next game will be against Mckinney on April 13. Keep up with all the action here at the Eagle Angle.
