Defense Dominates in Win Over Evangel
The Allen Eagles proved to be the superior bird in a 28-7 victory over the Evangel (LA) Christian Academy Eagles, leaving Allen with a perfect 2-0 record to begin the 2017 season.
On a night dominated by the defenses, the Allen defensive line dictated the pace of the game and lead the charge in neutralizing the Evangel offense. The Allen defense kept the Evangel quarterback under duress throughout the game, allowing only 47 passing yards in addition to just 31 rushing yards at 1.3 yards per carry.
The only score Allen allowed was a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the first quarter, but the defense made splash plays of its own with a forced fumble in the third quarter and an interception in the endzone by senior defensive back TKai Lloyd.
On offense, Allen had to struggle for every yard against a strong Evangel front seven until literally running away with it in the fourth quarter. Senior running back Brock Sturges carried majority of the load, racking up 175 rushing yards and 33 receiving yards on his way to three total touchdowns.
The Allen air attack struggled throughout the game, as the Evangel defensive line controlled the line of scrimmage and kept the passing game from developing a rhythm. Junior quarterback Grant Tisdale finished the night with 76 passing yards and one touchdown against one interception, while also gaining 15 yards on the ground.
Next week the Allen Eagles will take on the Coppell Cowboys at Eagle Stadium. Stay up with all the action here on the Eagle Angle or on our Twitter, @theeagleangle.
