“Music, specifically rap, shows a different side of life than what most people see. Society is often viewed through the eyes of the majority. Well, what about those inner city kids who grow up with nothing? Rap gives them a voice, a purpose- it’s educating. Albums like good kid, m.A.A.d city, Illmatic, and even a rock album like The Wall have real value in schools. When an artist like Kendrick Lamar can get a crowd of tens of thousands to a cappella “Humble” at a concert, and then release a song like DNA celebrating being black in America- that’s special. It shows something.”
