Humans of Allen: Jasmine Kelly

“If you want to be in color guard, you definitely need stamina and patience. Not everything is going to come to you immediately, so you should definitely take some time if you struggle to practice. You need good work ethics, determination, and work well with others. You can’t be an individual on a team, especially because the color guard is like a family- we bicker and argue, but we still all love each other and work together for the shows and performances. Being on the field is also a lot of fun. You’ll just look up, especially in Allen, and see the audience and see people looking at you, as well as little kids who want your high five. It’s nerve racking to be in front of everybody, but you’ll love the cheering that comes from the Allen side. We work hard during practice, and it’s also very time consuming, with practices around three to three-and-a-half hours each, but it pays off. Last year we went to Ohio for World Guard International, and Varsity got ranked 16th in the nation. We stayed there for six days, and we had such a great time. Although color guard is like a job, it’s fun.”
