Allen Eagles football preview
The Eagles are coming off of a disappointing playoff loss. AHS dropped the second round to the Rockwall Yellowjackets 60-59.
“Our focal point is to work on all three phases of the game,” head coach Terry Gambill said. “Offense, defense and special teams.”
The Eagles’, who are ranked 77th nationally and 23rd in Texas, first game of the year will be on August 25 against the Plano East Panthers, who are ranked 3,168th nationally and 425th in Texas.
“We are preparing for Plano East by doing the little things right and going 110 percent at all times,” senior offensive guard Jordan Trout said.
The Eagles will have a new quarterback this season. Senior quarterback General Booty is a transfer from California, and he will make his first appearance for the Eagles in their season opener.
“He has done a great job at just being the quarterback,” coach Gambill said. “He hasn’t come in and tried to win a popularity contest.”
With the pandemic going on, the Eagles have had to make some adjustments to the way they practice.
“Since returning to school for practice, the coaches have been enforcing social distancing guidelines and requiring us to wear masks at all times when we are not doing drills,” Trout said.
The coaches have also given the players a set of guidelines that they must abide by when they are playing their games this season.
“When we are on the sidelines at games we have to distance as much as possible and we must have masks on,” Trout said.
With the first game of the season only two weeks away, Coach Gambill has some high praise for his team as they are preparing to suit up for their first game of the season.
“They are a very coachable team,” Coach Gambill said. “They have a great attitude and a great work ethic.”
